The teachers of the French programme use Web functions to create a common virtual learning space for students in all French courses to access learning resources, practice language skills and have discussions. Both teachers and students go to this French programme platform (built on Moodle) for news, updates of activities and out-of-class communication. Additional learning resources for students on the platform include:
- Audio-enabled dictation exercises
- Grammar notes and interactive reading exercises
- Clips of French songs
- Information on French culture
- Video clips with interactive exercises
The virtual learning activities held include:
- Student blogs
- Forums for Q&A between teachers and students
- Joint projects that make use of forums for students to work with students in Europe
After an initial period of getting used to the online functions and interface, both students and teachers in the programme now find the platform indispensable. Site logs show that the usage of the various functions is growing. High numbers of teacher-student and student-student interactions are also recorded in the different forums. Teachers are impressed by the ability of the students in communicating effectively online in French.
