Dr. Xu Lin, Director General of Hanban Visits CUHK

On May 10, the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) welcomed a delegation from the Office of Chinese Language Council International (Hanban) under the leadership by Dr. Xu Lin, Director General of Hanban and Chief Executive of Confucius Institute Headquarters. Members of the delegates included Prof. Ma Jianfei, Deputy Director-General of Hanban and Deputy Chief Executive of Confucius Institute Headquarters; and Prof. Kristofer Schipper, Senior Consultant of Hanban and Chief Editor of the Translation of the Five Classics (Wujing).

Visit of Dr. Yang Zhijian of the Ministry of Education

Dr. Yang Zhijian, Deputy Director General, Department of Higher Education of the Ministry of Education visited the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) on May 15. He was warmly greeted by Prof. Jack Cheng, Pro-Vice-Chancellor of CUHK. In the meeting with Dr. Yang, Prof. Cheng introduced CUHK's latest development and its research cooperation with the institutions in the mainland.

Heilongjiang Province Delegation Visits CUHK to Explore Collaboration Opportunity

The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) welcomed a 13-member delegation from Heilongjiang Province on May 20. Headed by Dr. Zhao Min, Director General, the Department of Science and Technology of Heilongjiang Province, the visiting delegation was composed of government officials, and senior members of some medicine universities and pharmaceutical enterprises in Heilongjiang. The delegation aimed for a deeper understanding of CUHK's research development in the fields of biotechnology and pharmaceuticals.

Zhejiang Province Delegation Visits CUHK

A group of senior management from Zhejiang Province met with members of the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) on May 22, to explore the possibility of cooperation with CUHK regarding training for Zhejiang's government officials.

Shaanxi Normal University President Visits CUHK

Prof. Fang Yu, President of Shaanxi Normal University led a delegation to visit the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) on May 21. The delegation met with Prof. Jack Cheng, Pro-Vice-Chancellor and Prof. John Lee, Dean of the Faculty of Education. The delegation also visited the Faculty of Education to gain a better understanding of the University and to explore possible collaboration opportunities with the Faculty. An agreement on academic exchange was signed during the visit. The agreement seeks to foster mutual understanding and collaboration between CUHK and Shaanxi Normal University in university level.

Vice-Chancellor's Cup of Student Innovation 2009

The 3rd Vice-Chancellor's Cup of Student Innovation (VCCI) was held on 17 April 2009. The Expert Panel selected 12 projects to be awarded. Prof. Kenneth Young, Acting Vice-Chancellor, presented prizes on 14 May. The details of the awardees are as follows:

Delegation of the Association of Chinese Graduate Schools visits CUHK

A 40-member delegation from the Association of Chinese Graduate Schools, under the leadership of Prof. Xu Huaimin, Executive Vice Dean, China University of Petroleum, Beijing visited the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) on May 7. 

The delegation met with CUHK representatives including Prof. Henry N.C. Wong, Pro-Vice-Chancellor and Prof. Wong Wing-shing, Dean of Graduate School. During the meeting, the delegation was introduced to CUHK's research development as well as its postgraduate education. Both the delegation and CUHK representatives engaged in enthusiastic exchanges of views and opinions on postgraduate education.  Thereafter, the delegation was invited to a lunch hosted by Prof. Wong Wing-shing.  The visit was concluded by a campus tour.
