On March 19, the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) and the Shenzhen Government have signed a memorandum of understanding on collaboration upon the MoU between CUHK and Shenzhen in 2006. They agreed to further promote together the collaboration in education, science research and development, and technology transfer. |

| CUHK Builds Closer Ties with Beijing Genomics Institute, Shenzhen |
A 30-member delegation led by Prof. Yang Huanming, Chairman of Management Board, Beijing Genomics Institute, Shenzhen (BGI) visited the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) on 20 March. During the visit, a collaboration agreement was concluded and public lectures on genomics were delivered by Prof. Yang Huanming and Prof. Wang Jun, Associate Director of BGI. Prof. Liu Yinli, Science and Technology Advisor to the Mayor of Shenzhen, and Mr. Ken Hui, Vice President, Marketing & Admission, Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks were also present in the signing ceremony. |

| State Key Laboratory in Oncology in South China 2009 Retreat Conference |
The State Key Laboratory (SKL) in Oncology in Southern China Retreat Conference 2009 was held on 27-28 March. A total of 211 participants, including 55 from the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) and 156 from Sun Yat-sen University (SYSU) attended the conference. Conference participants were top scientists and prominent scholars in Oncology from the two universities. It was the first large-scale conference of the SYSU-CUHK SKL in Oncology since its establishment in 2006. |

The first conference on spatially integrated humanities and social sciences was co-organised by The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK), Peking University and National Taiwan University from 16 to 17 March on CUHK campus. The opening ceremony was officiated by Prof. Kenneth Young, Pro-Vice-Chancellor of CUHK, Prof. Lin Hui, Institute of Space and Earth Information Science, CUHK, Prof. Tang Xiaofeng, Peking University, and Prof. Sun Chih-Hong, National Taiwan University in Hong Kong, and Prof. Lay Jinn-Guey, National Taiwan University in Taiwan simultaneously by means of video conference.
