1. Contactless CU Link Cards will be issued soon

Ever since its issuance in October 1999, CU Link Card has become a "must carry" item for most staff and students. For example, you need a CU Link Card to gain admittance to various University facilities, including Library, Sports Centre, buildings with access controls, etc.

A card replacement exercise will commence in February 2009, to replace the current contact-type CU Link Cards with a hybrid card that supports both contact and contactless technology.  Contactless cards offer several advantages over the standard integrated circuit (contact-type) cards, such as faster transaction times, ease of use, and less wear and tear on the cards and the data reading and writing devices.

While most University members will be issued a brand new hybrid card, to be environmentally responsible, a tamper-proof chip sticker (i.e. embedded with contactless chip) will be affixed on those cards expected to have a shorter term of use this allows you to enjoy the convenience of contactless transactions without giving up your existing card which is in good condition.

A card replacement plan will be announced soon. Stay tuned.
