1. Enhancements of Spam Filtering Service (SFS)

The Spam Filtering Service (SFS) of Campus-wide E-mail System (CWEM) identifies thousands of spam everyday. On average, about 50% of e-mails sent to @cuhk.edu.hk addresses have been identified by SFS as spam.

With effect from 14 March, the Spam Filtering Service will be enhanced in the following ways:

  1. Include Distributed Checksum Clearinghouse (DCC) for Spam Identification
DCC is a more powerful anti-spam tool which helps to identify spam more effectively.
  2. Insertion of "[SPAM-ITSC]" in the Subject of a Spam
In addition to inserting "X-RBL-Warning" into the header, SFS will also add a prefix "[SPAM-ITSC]" to the subject of an identified spam.
  3. Change to the "Reject" Option
In the new setting, spam can be discarded without delivering to your mailbox and no rejection message will be sent to the sender. To reflect this change, the existing "reject" option will be renamed to "discard".

We believe that the new enhancements will further improve its ability in identifying spam, and at the same time help you filter spam more efficiently. If you have not used the SFS and have been annoyed by spam, why not try it now? Please visit http://www.cuhk.edu.hk/itsc/network/app/email/spam.html for details of this service.

We will continue to fight against spam. Should you have any enquiries about these enhancements, please do not hesitate to contact us through ITSC Electronic HelpDesk .

SFS provides you with three options - label, discard and folder - to handle the identified spam that sent to your @cuhk.edu.hk mailbox. You can update your perference through the CUHK Online Directory.
