1. Review of Policies for Use of ResNet and ClassNet

One of our key facilities is a well-established network to meet our users' needs. In order to facilitate teaching and research activities, the ITSC has implemented the following changes during a trial period between Mar 1 and May 30.

a. Allow server setup on ResNet and ClassNet for the provision of ftp/web/vnc/telnet/ssh services for campus users subject to the following conditions:

  • No extensive loading that affects the performance of the campus network, nor monopolization of the campus network resources in terms of bandwidth. Server connections that violate these guidelines will be terminated without further notice.
  • For the support of teaching, research and student services
  • Not to harm the campus network. ITSC reserves the right to prohibit the running of other servers which are harmful to the network (e.g. system services such as DHCP)

b. Extend the Classnet connection session time from 4 hours to 8 hours (with automatic disconnections after one hour of idle time).
